The Three Pillars of Exposure

1. The pupil of our eyes.
2. The smaller the aperture opening, the higher the Aperture F number.
3. The larger the aperture, the smaller the area in focus.

Great Black and White Photographers Part 3

1. The first things that caught my eye from the photographs was what the people in the picture were doing. The pictures were from normal day, I simply liked the pictures that photographer took thats why I chose them.
  •  I see a little white girl and a little black boy playing in the middle of the street. She's wearing a pretty dress and he is wearing shorts with a shirt, I see the parents of both children with smiles on their faces seen their kids playing together.
  • I hear the sound of cars passing by and laughs of the kids, and from far away I can hear the feet of more kids coming to play with the two little kids.
  • I feel the breezy of warm-humid air hitting my face and I feel a sweat drop sliding down my forehead to my cheek then falling to the floor.
  • I smell the smoke of the cigarette of the guy to my left is smoking.
  • I taste the salty sweat drop that some how landed on my lip ugh.

To show everyone at school how great my photographer Helen Levitt I would design posters about her and her style of photography. I would hang multiple of posters at school so everyone could see them.

Mural Project Preview

1. A theme that I would do that can tell an unique story about Akins would be " After the Bell". This would be about what school clubs are after school like Akins Cares, Latinos Unidos, Key Club, Animate Club ect.
2. I think this would be a theme that is worth spending time on because that way other students could see what goes on after school and maybe they would going a club.
3. Advantages of using a phone would be that you don't have to carry anything that is heavy to carry and a disadvantage would be phone wouldn't take good pictures like the camera would.
4 . Pictures would come out better, you can focused and use different scenes to take pictures, disadvantage would be that you can't always have a SLR camera.
5. I think we should use SLR cameras because we can do more things with them.

Africa White & Black

I really like many of the photos of Nick Brandt, but this was my favorite. Its only one object, an elephant that is standing right in the middle of the photo, it looks as if the elephant was looking straight in the camera, and I really liked the values it shows. What captured my attention was  the beauty and simplicity, its very balance.
  • What Nicked use to take this pictures was a  Pentax 6711 camera with only two fixed lenses.
  • Brandt's reason for taking photos is the love that he hastowards animals and the love for the land of East Africa. He was frustrated because he couldn't show his feeling about animals in film, so he went into photography in oder to achieve what he wanted.
  • The hope he has of taking this pictures is being to record a last testament to the wild animals and places there before they are destroyed by the hands of man.
  • "I'm not interested in creating work that is simply documentary or filled with action and drama, which has been the norm in the photography of animals in the wild" - quote by Nick Brandt.

Academic Shoot Reflection

  1. Some of the challenges I encounter with while taking pictures was trying to get people to stay in one position.
  2. I was having a hard time finding something with lines and balance, also before going in the classrooms I was making sure I was holding the camera correctly.
  3. If I could do the assignment again I would try getting less people to represent the rules, do better examples of framing and balance.
  4. The things I would do the same would be the angle positions.
  5. The easiest rules I could do are simplicity and mergers.
  6. The hardest rule to capture for me would be balance and lines.
  7. I wasn't sure of what balance meant, but now that I look at the definition again and looked at examples I think that I got it now.

Academics School

Simplicity

1. I believe that I did very good following the rule.
2. The student in black shirt.
3. Yes, he is the only object in my photo.
4. To improve I could get a better angle on my object.

Balance

1. I think that I could do better at this rule.
2. The girl in white shirt.
3. Yes its clear.
4. To improve on my next shoot I could take the picture of an object facing the camera.

                                                                            Lines

1. I think its good, but not the best.
2.The lines behind the girl.
3. Yes Its clear.
4.To improve I could make it more clear on what the lines are pointing at.

Rule of Thirds

1. It's ok I did follow the rule.
2. My object is the student with blue shirt.
3. Yes.
4.  I think for the next time I'm doing this rule I can get a different angle and  be more specific on my object.

Avoiding Mergers

1. I did a good job following the rule
2. My specific object is the girl who is half cut off the picture
3.Yes
4. There is not really an improvement for mergers

Framing

1. I did good but it could of been better.
2. My object is the girl with short brown hair.
3. Not really.
4. I think I could of gotten something else of the right side of her to do the full frame, and algo be more specific on what my object is.

Academics Shoot Preview

The story
In this photo I can see a story of two classmates been silly with their teacher.

                                                           Action & Emotion
In this photo an action is been taken by a group of  young girls giving out food to needed people, the emotion can be seen in the faces of the adults.
Filling the Frame
There is many things happening in the photograph. You can see the water capture in mid air before falling to the table and the amazed face expressions of the two girls.

This is my favorite photo, and the reason I chose it is because I really like the colors in it, red, yellow, black, gray. It simply looks like they are having fun. The rules of photography shown in here are, Rule of Thirds, nothing is placed exactly in the middle of the photo. Also Line, the hands of the three guys, they can be seen as lines pointing in the direction of the fire.

1. I think that I could go take pictures in the Art classrooms, they do a lot of things with colors, still life, and other cool things that can be photograph.
2. I would like to go to Ms. Medinas's painting class, she has very interesting things in her classroom, algo I would like to go into a language class like french or spanish.
3. To get really good pictures like the ones I saw, I would be taking pictures at different angles and positions.

Elements of Art and Principles of Design

Elements Of Art

Line- Lines are marks made by a pointed tool: brush, pencil, pen, etc. Lines can vary in width, direction, curvature, length, or color.
I chose this photograph for LINE because you can clearly see lines from the floor, curved and straight lines.

I chose this painting because you can see that almost everything is done with LINE, like the tall sculpts of rock.

Shape- Shapes are formed wherever the ends of a continuous line meet.Geometric shapes such as circles, triangles or squares have perfect, uniform measurements and don't often appear in nature. Organic shapes are associated with things from the natural world, like plants and animals.
I chose this photograph to represent SHAPE because you can see the geometric shape of a leaf, a continuous line.
I chose this painting because you can see the geometric SHAPE of the cans.

Color- Color wheels show the primary colors, secondary colors, and the tertiary (intermediate) colors. They also show the relationships between complementary colors across from each other, such as blue and orange; and analogous (similar or related) colors next to each other such as yellow, green, and blue. Black and white may be thought of as colors but, in fact, they are not. White light is the presence of all color; black is the absence of reflected light and therefore the absence of color.
I chose this photo for COLOR because you can obviously see color, it has the presence of warm and cool colors.
I chose this painting to represent COLOR because everything is has color, blue, yellow, green, red, and black, it contains most of the colors.

Value (Tone)- Value, or tone, refers to dark and light; the value scale refers to black and white with all gradations of gray in between. Value contrasts help us to see and understand a two-dimensional work of art.
I chose this photograph to show VALUE because of the different shades of black, you can see the color going from dark to light.
I chose this painting to show VALUE because its easy to see the color going from black to a lighter shade of black and gray.

Form- Form describes objects that are three-dimensional, having length, width, and height.
I chose this photograph to represent FORM because you can see that the squares are 3D, you can tell it has a length, width and height.
I chose this painting for FORM because you can see both man look like 3D.

Texture- Texture can be rough, bumpy, slick, scratchy, smooth, silky, soft, prickly--the list is endless. Texture refers to the surface quality, both simulated and actual, of artwork.
I chose this photograph for TEXTURE because when you look at it, you can imagine how the bark feels, you can feel the texture.
I chose this painting for TEXTURE because you can see the grass and almost feel the texture  of ir.

Space- Space refers to distances or areas around, between, or within components of a piece. Space can be positive (white or light) or negative (black or dark), open or closed, shallow or deep, and two-dimensional or three-dimensional.
I chose this photo to show SPACE because you can see the straws been surrounded by negative(dark&black) shadows.
I chose this painting to represent PAINTING because the woman is surrounded by negative(black) space.

Balance-
Balance is the comfortable or pleasing arrangement of things in art. There are three different types of balance: symmetrical, asymmetrical, and radial
.
I chose this photo for Balance because if you were to cut this photo in half it would be equal in both sides.
I chose this painting to show Balance because the total weight of the picture if balance.

Contrast-Contrast is created by using elements that conflict with one another. Often, contrast is created using complementary colors or extremely light and dark values. Contrast creates interest in a piece and often draws the eye to certain areas. It is used to make a painting look interesting.
I chose this photo to represent Contrast because the color of the green wall and the yellow dress conflict each other. It draws you attention to the little girl.
In this painting you attention is drawn to the flowers shown with color compare to thet guy in black and white thats holding the flowers.

Emphasis-Emphasis in the focal area of an artwork gives it importance. An artist may stress some elements of the design over others. The eye of the viewer will focus on the area of emphasis or center of interest first, then take in the rest of the composition.

I chose this photograph for Emphasis because the focal area is the red door, then your focus goes around the rest of the composition.
This painting shows Emphasis. The viewers attention is focused in the police man and the kid, then the attention goes to the rest of the painting.

Movement- Movement in an artwork means the artist is taking viewers on a trip through the work by means of lines, edges, shapes, and colors often leading to the focal area. Movement is a visual flow through the composition. It can be the suggestion of motion in a design as you move from object to object by way of placement and position. Directional movement can be created with a value pattern. It is with the placement of dark and light areas that you can move your attention through the format.
This photo represents Movement. The photo shows different dark and light areas that gets your attention throughout the whole thing.
Movement is presented here because the "head" shape repeated makes the viewers attention evaluate the whole painting.

Pattern- Patterns are made in art when the same shapes or elements are repeated again and again. Pattern uses the elements of art in planned or random repetitions to enhance surfaces of paintings or sculptures.
You can see Pattern in this photo, the yellow signs are been repeated.
This painting shows Pattern, the same people are been repeated over & over the painting.

Rhythm-RRhythm is the repetition of shapes, lines, and forms. Rhythm is a movement in which some elements recurs regularly. Like a dance, it will have a flow of objects that will seem to be like the beat of music.
This photo shows Rhythm, the repetition of the circle form and the lines of the mushrooms.
This shows Rhythm by repeating the square tiles, the statues, an lines on top of the painting.

Unity- Unity means that all elements in an artwork are in harmony. Unity brings together a composition with similar units.
This photo shows unity because the photo uses the same type of units.
This painting shows unity by having the same types of lines, the whole artwork is in harmony.
