Self Portrait Plan

  1. I am planning to have one light and one reflector.
  2. I'll try using both but not at the same time to see the difference.
  3. Maybe one, but if I'm using the camera's timer and constant light then I won't probably need one.
  4. I want a dark background, not necessarily black but as longs as it's not white.
  5. Normal/ standard lens.

Close-Up Plan

Ideas for close up photography
  • Color pencils
  • Jewelry
  • electronics
  • type writer
  • leaves/ plants
  • insects
  • makeup
  • clothing textures
  • outside nature

Motion Preview

  1. Slowing down shutter speed helps you capture motion on your photos
  2.  One way is selecting a longer shutter speed, second could be panning and also using a tripod.
  3. Shutter Priority Mode allows you to have complete control of it, meanwhile the camera controls the rest of the setting to get a good photo.
  4. The three methods you can use to compensate for long shutter speed when there is too much light are:
  • adjusting the Aperture to a smaller size
  • decreasing the ISO, this affects the sensibility of your camera's sensor
  • trying a new density filter, these filters cut the amount of light going into the lens it kind of acts like sunglasses
     5.  It would depend on the subject's speed, but it should have a slow shutter speed.
     6. Its the fasted auto focus point, and you can use it as a target for your focus object.
     7. It allows you to continuously keep focusing.
     8. Al-Servo mode focuses on a the moving object, so as you move the closer or further the camera
constantly adjusting the focus keeping the object as sharp as possible
     9. The advantage of using Al-Servo in sports/action photography is that even if the subject moves it
         will still keep focus
     10. the camera will not refocus on its own, you can now control when to focus on the object you're shooting.
     11. When you are using BBF you might have problems if you are shooting a still life. The picture might come blurry because you camera will try to look for something that is in motion to focus it.

Using Wireless Sync and Remotes

1. How many PocketWizards do you need to fire a flash remotely?
You will need at least two of them
2. How does a PocketWizard transmit a signal?
It uses radio signals
3. How many channels are available on a PlusX transmitter?
There are 10 channels
4. How can you tell if a signal has been sent or received?
A light turns solid red
5. What do you need to remotely trigger your camera to take a photo?
You connect the Plus-X to your camera with an appropriate camera cable, and set the channel on the Plus-x on your hand and just trigger.

Virtual Copies and Snapshots

1. You can only export one at a time
2. Only the last one you saved will get exported in Snapshots
3. You press Ctrl+ after you can edit the photos however you want
4. An advantage would be that you can export all of the copies at the same time
5. If you delete the master photo, all of the copies will be deleted too

Stock Photography and Legal Issues

1. Basically what a model release is the permission a person on your photo for you to post it somewhere or sell it. It is important because you need the consent of who ever is in your photo in order for you to publish it somewhere without getting into legal problems.

2. It expresses what its on your photo, it's like putting a title to your photo.

3. You might get sued because your are using a logo that does not belong to you.

4. Saving space is useful to be able to write around the photo, like a title or captions

5. They like it because they won't have to worry about anyone claiming the image, they're able to post it but not take credit.

6. It can be possible that more than one photographer to choose the same photo and might use it for a similar thing that you are using it for.

7. You can do right managed.

8.Royalty free images are not licensed for taking photos, meanwhile rights managed are licensed and it keeps the buyer from conflicts by having a clean market separation between the uses of the images.

9.If I take pictures in an art museum which allows photographers to be taken and I photograph some paintings or sculpture, can I sell the photographs?

10. This question interested me because I like going to art museums and if I take a picture of a famous artwork i would want to know if I could post it somewhere.

Still Life Preview

Part2
1. In a still life painting we often see flowers, fruit, or bases.

2. Some factors a photographer must consider when shooting still life photography are lighting, background, the placement of the objects.

3. Aperture Priority is helpful because it will automatically produce the correct exposure, it will help concentrate on focusing and depth of field.

4.It will increase the exposure time.

Part3
1.

2. I could do stock photography of make-up, food or arrangements of school or office supplies.

3. For make-up, maybe magazines like 17 magazine, people who make calendars or anyone that would want to promote school or office related things.

4. It allows the photographer to experiment with lighting and arrangement of things. I also shows the photographers creativity of making something simple to interesting and unique.

Part4
1. I could use flower pots, books, make up, and food to shoot a still life.
2. Depending on the objects I use, then it would be different. It could feel like a pause in time, holding time and admiring what's in the picture.
3.I think that for flower bases and food, I should use a plain backdrop. The color of it would probably be black, white or a deep red or green. For the books and makeup I think it can by anything like a table, or a background with other subjects around but that don't distract the main object.

First Free Shoot

The intended object in this photo is the flower, the small insect makes it look more interesting.

Here my object was Leslie's eye.

Another flower, its leaves are yellow so it looks nice with a blurred background.

My experience with this project was great. I really enjoyed using the macro lens because you are able to zoom in a lot into anything, it enlarges the subject you want and blurs out the background focusing on what you want. But there is something that I could do different next time, like zooming in more into the flower, take advantage and try to show more detail of whatever I'm shooting. What I learned was how to shoot full macro and partially macro.

Sunny 16 Rule and Basic Exposure Constant Notes

The Sunny 16 Rule- The proper exposure is determined by the ISO of the film/sensor setting.
ISO-100
Shutter speed- 1/100 or 1/125
Aperture-  f/16
LV: light value

Equivalent exposures:
Different frames that have the same amount of light but different aperture and shutter speed numbers

Aperture, Shutter Speed and ISO Review

APERTURE-
                                                                               F2.8

                                                                                 F16

1.We can relate aperture to one part of our body; the pupil of our eyes is very similar of how aperture works.
2.The smaller the Aperture is the larger the F-stops, the higher the Aperture is the smaller the F-stops.
3.Depth of Field is directly affected by Aperture. If you have a small aperture it would get everything in focus, if the aperture is large, the foreground would be sharp and the background blurred out.
4. F29,  F25,  F22, F20, F18, F16, F14, F13, F11, F10, F9, F8, F7.1,  F6.3,  F5.6, F5, F4.5
5.Highest is F4.5 and the lowest is F29

SHUTTER SPPED-
fast shutter speed

                                                                 slow shutter speed

 Day:
  • a.) the dunking booth- fast
  • b.) the food eating contest-Medium
  • c.) the rock climbing wall- fast
  • d.) someone working at a booth- fast

2. Aperture priority- the camera automatically sets the shutter speed.Shutter priority- the camera automatically sets the aperture.
Manual- you adjust both the shutter speed and aperture.

3. Shutter speed on the camera- 1/400, 1/3200, 1/2500, 1/2000, 1/1600, 1/1250, 1/1000, 1/800, 1/500, 1/400, 1/320, 1/250, 1/200, 1/160, 1/125, 1/100, 1/80, 1/60, 1/50, 1/40, 1/30, 1/25, 1/20, 1/15, 1/13, 1/10, 1/8, 1/6, 1/5, 1/4, 0"3, 0"4, 0"5, 0"6, 0"8, 1", 1"3, 1"6, 2",2"5, 3"2, 4", 5", 8", 10", 13", 15", 20", 25", 30", BULB.

ISO:
1. You can freeze motion and its always better to use a high ISO when theres not enough light.
2.He says that a low ISO is better when theres plenty of light to get most detail and the highest image quality.
3.Use a high ISO when theres not enough light and freeze motion.
4. ISO- 100, 200, 400, 800, 1600, 3200, 6400
